Locking up the food, and destroying the individuals means of producing food or living self sufficiently, is how militant corporate superpowers enslave the people of developing nations, and exploit them for labor and natural resources. Ultimately if all the elements necessary for human survival are owned by a few entities, all others who want to live will owe them for that opportunity. More food, more people. Hunger is a mechanism of control.
